Spring is finally here! The wildflowers are starting to bloom, and the annual Wildflower Walk is Sunday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. Naturalist Jim Goltz will lead the walk at Bell Forest, 200 Bell Settlement Road in Belleville. To get there, take Exit 185 from the TCH at Woodstock, onto Hwy 550 toward Hartford, turn left about 3 km later on the Red Bridge Rd; at Red Bridge, turn right on the Bell Settlement Rd. Plan on a 2-3 hour walk. Walk is free.
This year, a week in advance of our Bird Walk, we’re holding a warbler identification workshop on Saturday, May 30 beginning at 1 p.m. in the L.P. Fisher Public Library in Woodstock. Birder Grant Milroy will present images and vocalizations of the 23 different species of warbler known to breed in New Brunswick.
The Bird Walk itself is on Saturday, June 6, starting at 9 a.m. at the Meduxnekeag Valley Nature Preserve at Wilson Mountain, 260 Red Bridge Road. Plan on three hours. Last year 35 species were identified and the highlight was a close encounter with a Barred Owl.
